About these terms
These terms explain the rules for using this website. The website is run by the Engineering Forum of Nigerians (UK) (“EFN”, “we”, “us”), a registered charity in England and Wales (no. 1117948) that brings together UK-based engineers of Nigerian heritage. Our details are in the box “Who runs this website” on this page.
By using the website, you accept these terms. If you don’t accept them, please don’t use the website. Our privacy notice explains how we handle personal information.
Using this website
You are welcome to browse the website, print or download pages for your own use, and share links to it. When you use it, please don’t:
- break the law, or use the website to deceive or harm anyone;
- send spam, or anything abusive, threatening, offensive or defamatory, through our forms;
- pretend to be someone else, or give information you know is false;
- try to get into parts of the website, its server or its database that aren’t meant for you, including the editors’ sign-in area;
- send viruses or other harmful code, or do anything that could overload, damage or interrupt the website;
- use automated tools to copy large parts of the website or to fill in its forms.
We may block access to the website, or ignore messages, from anyone who breaks these rules.
Our content and copyright
The text, design and logo of this website are © Engineering Forum of Nigerians (UK), unless we say otherwise. The photographs of EFN events belong to EFN or to the photographers who took them.
- You may quote short extracts, as long as you credit EFN and link to the page.
- Please ask us before you copy larger parts of the website, or reuse our photographs or logo, for any other purpose.
- Don’t use our name or logo in a way that suggests we support or endorse you, your organisation or your product.
The names and logos of our partners and of other organisations, including the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), belong to their owners. We show them to identify those organisations; please don’t reuse them without their owners’ permission.
If you appear in a photograph on this website and would like it removed, or you think something here uses your work without permission, please contact us and we will look into it promptly.
Information, not professional advice
We work hard to keep this website accurate and up to date, but it gives general information only. It is not professional, legal or financial advice, and you shouldn’t rely on it as if it were.
NSE and COREN registration: our guides to registering with NSE or COREN — requirements, documents, fees and timescales — are there to help you prepare. EFN does not make registration decisions. NSE and COREN set their own rules and can change them at any time, so always check the current requirements with them, or with our registration coordinator, before you apply or pay.
Details of events, such as dates, times, venues and speakers, can change. Please check before you travel.
Links to other websites
We link to other websites — such as NSE, COREN, our partners and public bodies — because we think they are useful. We don’t control those websites and aren’t responsible for their content, whether they are available, or how they handle your information. A link is not an endorsement.
You may link to any page of our website, as long as you do it fairly and legally, don’t suggest that EFN supports or endorses you when we don’t, and don’t show our pages inside a frame on another website.
Membership, fees and donations
These terms cover your use of the website. Membership of EFN, membership fees and donations are arranged separately:
- Sending a membership application through this website doesn’t by itself make you a member. The Membership Secretary confirms your category first, and only then do you pay your fee.
- We don’t take card payments on this website itself. If you pay online or make a donation, you do so on the payment provider’s own secure page, under its terms; a bank transfer is covered by your bank’s terms.
Forms and your information
When you use a form on this website, please give accurate information. Don’t include sensitive details, such as information about your health, or anyone else’s personal details without their permission.
We use what you send us as described in our privacy notice, which also explains the cookies this website uses and how to change your cookie choices. To protect our forms, we may check for and block messages that look automated or abusive.
Availability of the website
The website is free to use. We do our best to keep it running and secure, but we can’t promise that it will always be available, uninterrupted or free from errors or viruses. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of it at any time. Please use your own virus protection.
Our responsibility to you
We provide this website free of charge, for general information. As far as the law allows:
- we are only responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our failing to take reasonable care, or of our breaking these terms;
- we are not responsible for loss caused by relying on information on this website without checking it (for example, NSE or COREN requirements), or by the content of other websites we link to;
- if you use the website for business purposes, we are not responsible for any loss of profit, income, business, opportunity or goodwill.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that the law of England and Wales does not allow us to limit or exclude. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time, for example when we add something new to the website or the law changes. The date at the top and bottom of this page shows when they last changed. The version on this page is the one that applies whenever you use the website.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can deal with any dispute about them. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
If a court decides that part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest of the terms still apply.
Contact us
If you have a question about these terms, or want to tell us about a problem with the website or something on it, email admin@efn.org.uk or use our contact form. Our postal address is in the box “Who runs this website” on this page.
